  4. Note to Registered users of previous GFile revisions

  6. If you are a registered user of a previous version of GFile, you are entitled 
  7. to use 2.1 without additional registration fees or requirements.

  11. The user of this program, by the action of using the program, agrees to 
  12. the license and warranty terms below.
  13.  
  14. GFile is NOT public domain software, nor is it free. It is a
  15. commercial software product, distributed using the 'Shareware'
  16. concept. Under this concept, you are allowed to use GFile for
  17. a period of 30 days to determine if it is useful to you. After
  18. this initial trial period, if you wish to continue to use GFile,
  19. you must register it by sending $20 US (cash, check, or money order)

  25. Registrations are not transferable. Registration confers the right of an
  26. individual to use GFile on any computer system.

  29. Please be sure to enclose your name and mailing address on a separate
  30. sheet. Do NOT count on the return address on the envelope being readable.

  32. Upon receipt of your registration, you will be sent a letter confirming
  33. your registration. You will also be sent letters informing you of future
  34. revisions/updates of GFile.

  36. Registration does not constitute ownership of GFile or any associated files.
  37.  
  38. No component of GFile may be modified, renamed, disassembled, or otherwise
  39. reverse-engineered, except as described in the program documentation.

  41. Limited Warranty

  44. Although all efforts are made to insure proper operation of this program,
  45. I cannot guarantee it will perform correctly on all systems under all
  46. possible configurations. Therefore, before using GFile (or any new program),
  47. back up your system completely and perform rigorous testing before relying
  48. on GFile for critical operations. The author is not responsible for any
  49. damage, loss, or problems caused directly or indirectly from the use of  
  50. GFile or any associated files. The liability of the author for the program
  51. not operating as desired or expected shall be limited to the registration 
  52. fee paid for use of the program.

  54. Distribution
  55. ============

  57. Anyone, registered or not, is encouraged to distribute GFile. However, 
  58. any distribution of GFile must conform to the following restrictions:
  59.  
  60.     1. All files (as listed below) that make up the GFile product must
  61.            be distributed as a single entity, and they may not be changed
  62.            or modified (archival/compression techniques excepted) from 
  63.        their original form. If installed on a computer system, all files
  64.        that make up the GFile product must be present and must be in the
  65.        same directory.
  66.     2. Any commercial distribution of GFile must explicitly state in
  67.        advertisements, catalogs, accompanying files, and any other 
  68.        promotional literature that buying the distribution does NOT 
  69.        confer the right to use GFile for other than the initial 30 day 
  70.        trial period, and that further use requires registration. Also, 
  71.        the distributor may not claim authorship or ownership of GFile.
  72.     3. Commercial distributors, and bulletin boards may bundle GFile
  73.        with other files containing promotional or instructional 
  74.        information so long as the restrictions of item 2 above are 
  75.        honored. However, GFile may not be bundled with other programs 
  76.        without the express written permission of the author.

  78. The following files make up GFile 2.1. If the distribution you received does not
  79. contain all of them, it is an invalid distribution.

  81.     gfile.exe    - The program file
  82.     gfiledll.dll    - A dynamic link library required to run gfile.exe
  83.     gfilecmd.pif    - A PIF used to implement the command line
  84.               operations. See the appropriate Help entry
  85.               (Launching Applications/Launching from the Command
  86.               Line) for details.
  87.     gfile.hlp    - GFile Help file. Unlike earlier versions, this is the
  88.               complete program documentation.
  89.     instalme.txt    - Instructions on how to install/remove GFile
  90.     readme.1st    - This file
  91.     technote.txt    - Revision history, corrections/warnings, any other
  92.               information concerning GFile that you should be
  93.               aware of but which doesn't 'fit' into any of the
  94.               other documentation files.

  97. Special Registration Note for Businesses/Organizations/Institutions
  98. ===================================================================

  100. Rather than register GFile for individuals, you may wish/need to register
  101. based on the number of users of GFile. To do so:
  102.  
  103.     Determine the number of people within your organization that
  104.     will be running GFile concurrently.
  105.                           ============
  106.  
  107.     Submit registration fees for the determined number of users.
  108.  
  109.     Note that registration is based on usage - not the number of copies 
  110.     of GFile. In particular, if 10 (for example) users share a single 
  111.     networked copy of GFile, the correct registration fee is 10 * $20 or
  112.     $200 - the same as if there were individual copies of GFile on each 
  113.     system. However, also note that if 5 of the individuals worked days 
  114.     and the other 5 nights, and there were never more than 5 instances 
  115.     of GFile running at once, the correct registration fee would be 
  116.     5 * $20 or $100.

  118.     Be sure to identify a single person, title, or office to which any
  119.     technical correspondence should be directed.

  122. Submitting bug reports/suggestions for improvement
  123. ==================================================
  124.  
  125. All users of GFile are encouraged to submit bug (program trouble) reports.
  126. Please provide as detailed a description of the error as possible. If the 
  127. error is consistently reproduceable, please describe the steps needed to
  128. reproduce the error. Include as detailed a description of the hardware and
  129. software that make up the system as possible, including a listing of system
  130. files (config.sys, autoexec.bat, win.ini, system.ini). Any information that
  131. will help me reproduce the problem will result in quicker correction.

  133. Suggestions for improving GFile are always welcome. However, the order in
  134. which they are implemented is:
  135.     1. Suggestions from Registered Users/Sites
  136.     2. Suggestions from Registered Users/Sites
  137.     3. Suggestions from Registered Users/Sites
  138.     4. Suggestions from beta testers
  139.     5. Chief programmer's (my) ideas
  140.     6. Suggestions from unregistered sources

  142. If you deduce from this that registering is a good way to influence the
  143. future direction of GFile - You're correct. If you suspect that the Chief
  144. Programmer always has more ideas than time to implement them, and that
  145. suggestions received only from unregistered sources are rarely implemented -
  146. You're correct again.
